A 19th century representation of Pocahontas (c1595 1617) being converted to Christianity before her marriage to Englishman John Rolfe. Pocahontas, a Native American princess, was baptised Rebecca by Anglican minister Alexander Whiteaker. She and the priest are depicted in white, symbolising the 'purity' of Christianity. Pocahontas came to London and was presented at the court of King
