I believe this pair dates to the early 20th c

just a little loss of the black paint

and kept near in boxes like this so to enjoy their chirping

"Single Truck with Horse" Box 1980s folk art which expanded to include 314To my eye this is really a beautiful old box, and a useful one, with the interior divided by slats into three sections. I can find no reference for I. B & Co, which is printed on the lovely old green paper label, but it seems possible it refers to the I. B Rowell Co. of Wuakesha, Wisconsin, which made farming tools; perhaps they produced a toy model or two as well? Long gone are the "single truck and horse" that were once inside, and gone is the slide
