with its origins traced to the spread of Hinduism in the medieval era and the arrival of leather-based puppet arts called thalubomalata from southern India
really a wonderful piece
Oil on Canvas Landscape with Sliced Apples, Signed Burns carved wooden puppet 14”x28” (with an additional 2"It's the big red sliced apple in the foreground that really drew me to this painting, very much larger than life amid this impressionistic landscape, which dissolves into a sort of earlyish Kandisky esque abstraction in the foreground. A bit of a curious one, setting a bit of an uncertain mood, signed Burns on the left side at the horizon line, and which I'd guess dates to the 1920s or so.
