I assume the rope wrapped around it was indeed once used to keep it from venturing too far away when floated in a pond or lake--and it does appear as if it may have seen some choppy waters

with coin slot on the lid and removable tin bottom for emptying

as you always scoop them up right away

Perhaps he lost his family along with way and now finds himself alone and untethered, feeling to me rather like a character from Beckett. 2 15 16" t x 5 8" w. Good condition, no losses, crudely carved and painted (which is much of why love him), black marker and watercolor on wood.
