Bird In (On) Hand, Old Handmade Valentine with Poem from Beulah scene painting This pencil and watercolor drawing

This pencil and watercolor drawing was probably a sketch in advance of a larger theorem painting

There are four corner pieces screwed to the back of the frame with a June 1885 patent

There are a few different sizes and varieties that were made

Wonderfully gentle and poetic

and quite poignant now

Bird In (On) Hand, Old Handmade Valentine with Poem from Beulah scene painting This pencil and watercolor drawingA charming old valentine or love note, all the better for being signed by a miss Beulah, who hand wrote a poem inside expressing "all my love for you." Great hand (looking a little like a talon), great bird, and I love how they arch in opposite directions. 5" x 3 5 8", very good condition, with decoratively cut edges. Early 20th c. I believe.
